The use of crimped wire foundation is a popular approach with beekeepers looking to retain a more natural approach, by avoiding the use of plastic foundation. Crimped wires are embedded vertically through the foundation to add strength and support to the beeswax.

This medium crimp-wire beeswax foundation has small cells measuring 4.9 mm (as opposed to our regular crimped-wire foundation which measures 5.4 mm).

Note: Use wedge top frames with these foundations, there are wire hooks at the top of each sheet that help keep the foundation in place between the wedge of the frame.

For frames that will be run through an extractor, it is important to provide additional support, with support pins. For frames in the brood chamber and therefore not to be used in an extractor, less support is needed.
