BetterComb is a fully drawn comb created from food-grade, virgin synthetic wax designed to closely mimic natural beeswax. Unlike standard foundation that requires bees to invest energy into building out the comb, BetterComb arrives complete and ready to place directly into your hive. These pre-assembled frames give your bees immediate space for brood rearing or nectar storage, saving them valuable time and resources. Whether you’re starting packages, growing nucs, or supporting strong colonies, BetterComb can provide a major advantage by giving your bees a head start.

These deep frames are built with care, using durable white pine wooden components and reinforced with high-strength steel wire. Each wire is embedded directly into the comb, while the top and bottom are securely pinned to hold everything firmly in place. This method provides support on all four sides, making the frames suitable for both brood rearing and honey storage in any climate.

The frames are bundled in sets of 10 and strapped together for shipment. Individual frames are not available. Each frame is standard Langstroth deep size, measuring 19″ long by 9-1/8″ tall.

Important Shipping Information:
Because drawn comb is delicate, some shipping damage may occur. This could include slightly bowed comb, cracked cells, or other minor imperfections. Beekeepers may need to make small adjustments before installing the frames, but bees will readily repair any damaged areas on their own. Please note: these frames are shipped “at your own risk,” especially in extreme temperatures. In cold weather, the comb becomes brittle; in hot conditions, it can soften or melt. To reduce the risk of damage, avoid leaving packages in direct sunlight or in hot vehicles.

Yes, but for best results, alternating individual BetterComb frames with foundation frames is not recommended. When mixing frame types, it’s advised to use at least five BetterComb frames per box.

Can I extract honey from these frames?
Yes. Fully wired BetterComb frames can be extracted in both tangential and radial extractors. As with traditional frames, begin slowly and gradually increase extractor speed.

What happens to BetterComb wax at the end of its use?
When the comb reaches the end of its life, it can be melted down. While the wax isn’t beeswax, it makes excellent candle material on its own or blended with beeswax. Frames are labeled as BetterComb so beekeepers can easily keep them separate from true beeswax throughout their use.
